Stop Squirrels Eating Pumpkin Decor For Yard – How To Keep Squirrels Off Pumpkins & Growing Pumpkin Plants – Keep Squirrels Away From Pumpkins For Halloween, Fall/Autumn, Thanksgiving Decor 2018
Squirrels eating pumpkins for outdoor yard decorations is a common sight during Halloween, Thanksgiving time every year.We decorate our homes with the bright and colorful pumpkins, only to see that they are gone in a few hours. To be honest, I love watching the squirrels eating the pumpkins and I actually keep the pumpkins for the squirrels to eat, as my kids love watching the squirrels eating the pumpkins.
If you want to keep squirrels off pumpkins or keep squirrels away from pumpkins, an easy solution is to use decorative owl statues. You can also use these near your growing pumpkin plants to protect the growing pumpkins or squirrel proof your pumpkins.
We buy different kind of cute pumpkins and arrange them in front of our patio, and the kids love watching through the glass sliding door, while the squirrels come to eat them. It is so much fun for them to see, and they tell me we need to buy pumpkins for the squirrels during the fall season. They eat some little parts of the pumpkins at a time, then play and climb the near by trees and then they come to eat the rest a while later.
There are different kinds of pumpkins that we use to decorate the outside yard, like the bright and orange cute little pumpkins, yellow pumpkins, white pumpkins, pumpkins with stripes, green pumpkins, we buy all these, whatever is available and keep it in front of our patio and watch the pumpkins eat them!
Sometimes we also buy squashes, for decoration and also for the squirrels to eat. We have kept acorn squashes and butternut squashes to decorate our yard and of course for the squirrels to eat. I noticed that the acorn squash is gone in a day, while the butternut squash sat there for weeks, as the squirrels only ate the butternut squash, little by little, probably they are less tasty to them, or they are large and quite hard for them to finish off.
If I want to keep the squirrels away from pumpkins, what I do is to use decorative artificial pumpkins, which they are not interested and won’t eat. See my detailed post here on pumpkin decorations for fall, Halloween and thanksgiving which will give you many ideas on decorating with pumpkins. Artificial decorative pumpkins are available in different colors and you can easily decorate your yard with them without having to worry about the squirrels eating the pumpkins.
As I mentioned above in the post, an immediate and effective solution to keep the squirrels away from the pumpkins is to use owl statues, as the squirrels are scared of the owls. You can use real looking owl statues to scare the squirrels away if you don’t want the squirrels to eat the decorative real pumpkins. The owl statues will serve as another piece of decoration too!
